Sunday, July 5th, at the Redwood Cafe: Ed Coletti, Kirk Lumpkin, Word-Music Continuum, Steve Shain and selections from David Madgalene's "Call Down the Angel"

Sunday, July 5, 2015. REDWOOD CAFE FIRST SUNDAY SERIES. Poetry and Music featuring highlights from “Call Down the Angel.” Ed Coletti, Kirk Lumpkin, the Word-Music Continuum, Steve Shain, and David Madgalene. Series Hosts: Geri DiGiorno and Bill Vartnaw. FREE and open to the public. REDWOOD CAFE, 8240 Old Redwood Hwy, Cotati, CA. 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

David Madgalene wrote the songs and poems that comprise CALL DOWN THE ANGEL to reflect one man’s spiritual journey through the desert of contemporary life. It is also a love letter to the “black unknown bards” who created the great tradition of African-American spirituals, and groups and singers such as the 5 Blind Boys of Mississippi and the Sensational Nightingales who continue and expand upon this great American art form. David says, “I hope people can make it down to BFUU, Berkeley, Saturday, July 18th, 2-5 pm for the full performance of CALL DOWN THE ANGEL featuring the magnificently talented Susan Mashiyama, also the awesome Justin Coletti of Dubtown Dread. If they can’t, or even if they do, our July 5th performance at the Redwood CafĂ© will feature a number of selections from the ANGEL as performed by Ed Coletti, Kirk Lumpkin, Steve Shain and myself. Ed, Kirk and the Word-Music Continuum will also perform their own original works.”
